I don’t know if shagalicious is a word, but if it’s not, it should be! Walking through this house for the first time was like stepping into a time machine. Orange and red shag carpet, parquet on the floor and ceiling, orange countertops, a turquoise bathtub - I was smitten. It was easy for me to blur my eyes and imagine an updated version of this house other people would find swoon-worthy.
This house had great bones and my team made them even better. Improvements included a new roof, chimney and hearth repair, a new patio that slopes AWAY from the house, decommissioned oil tank, new furnace, and new windows. With the guts of the house up-to-date, we tackled the finishes.
Outside, the front porch received a make over with a refinished front door, fresh paint, new address numbers, a doorbell and lighting. I went with an earthy dark grey for the exterior to complement the brick. In the front yard, I took out the paver patio and put in some nice green grass and the back yard is also looking lush with grass and accent plants - a big improvement from the covered porch that was there before!
Inside, the change is immense. Every bit of flooring in the house has been refinished or replaced. Every wall has been painted. The lighting, outlets and switches have been replaced. New slab-front kitchen cabinets and floating shelves (custom made by my future step son!) compliment the refinished original cabinets. All new appliances, fixtures, hardware and fresh white quartz countertops finish off the kitchen. Both bathrooms are completely redone with period appropriate stacked brick tile, new vanities, matte black fixtures and hardware.
