Like a good parent, I feel guilty having favorites, but between you and me... this is the best house I have ever worked on.
The main floor and basement were built in 1955 and the original owners added a second floor and dining room in the 1970s. The home was lovingly cared for by the same family until Old Growth Homes took stewardship of the property in 2023.
The big challenge with this big (4300 sq ft) home was honoring the period detail while updating the finishes, floor plan and mechanicals to meet the needs of a modern family. We started by deleting one of the three main floor bedrooms to create a larger living space and a more welcoming entry experience. The other significant layout change was reconfiguring the second floor. There, we created an amazing primary suite by combining two bedrooms and we repurposed a group of closets to make room for a second bath and a laundry area.
We embraced the original wood paneling and built-ins from the original house and made design choices to enhance those features. Soft green-grey cabinetry pairs seamlessly with the brick and warm wood tones original to the home. Repurposed mid-century credenzas serve as vanities in two bathrooms. Modern and original lighting nods to the mid-century aesthetic.
The exterior transformation has brought joy to many a passerby. A new fence, street trees, fresh paint and custom planters anchor the outside experience. A local designer re-imagined the landscape and brought the curb appeal up to a 10/10.
